naturally or can be made by humans.
- Useful made materials are
produced from raw materials.
- A property must describe
any piece of material.
- Each material has its own
set of properties.
- Sea, air, fossil fuels,
rocks and living things are raw materials.
- Coal, crude oil and
natural gas are fossil fuels.
- Crude oil is separated
into different substances in a refinery.
- Copper is obtained from
malachite.
- Lime water goes milky
when carbon dioxide is bubbled through it.
- Mohs scale is a number
scale for describing the hardness of materials.
- The uses of some common
materials such as wood, plastic, rubber and metal.

- Classify objects into
different groups.
- Identify properties of
different materials.
- List names of some
natural and some made materials.
- Draw a flow chart to show
how sheep wool is made into a sweater.
- Do an experiment to get
copper from rock.
- Test for carbon dioxide
gas.
- Explain the meanings of
words used to describe materials.
- Work out the hardness of
materials using Mohs scale.
- Plan and do an
investigation to find out whether two threads are twice as strong as one.
- Chose the right material
for the job.
- Make a parachute.
